Concentration Camp Tours |
|
One of the legacies of the Holocaust are the tours that are available to a small number of the concentration camps which serve as a painful reminder of these dark, dark days. I am in no way going to suggest that such tours are in any way a fun day out, but the Auschwitz tours are perhaps the most harrowing given that they are the best-known of all the death camps in World War II. Additionally this is where such huge numbers of the Jewish faith were murdered in one way or another.
Tears are not an uncommon sight on these tours but perhaps as time passes, the younger generations are perhaps far enough removed from the events that took place to not share the show feelings of grief externally. If you are well-versed in what took place then prepare yourself to break down at some point - it is inevitable for most people. As morbid as the tours may seem they are more than worthwhile to fully appreciate the size of the camps and get a feel for what life must have been like for those imprisoned here. |
